Why should someone have their litter box professionally deep cleaned?

How often should a litter box be completely emptied and deep cleaned?
As a general guideline, a litter box should be completely emptied and deep cleaned regularly, often every two to four weeks depending on the number of cats, type of litter, type of litter box, and how heavily it is used. Some households may benefit from more frequent cleaning. Automated or self-cleaning litter boxes should also be deep cleaned according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Why isn't daily scooping enough?
